LiLi Roquelin’s title for her Album “Be Inspired” was originally a hashtag she had been using when sharing her favorite inspiring quotes or photos on social media and is a perfect fit for this collection of songs. The music, lyrics and artistry of the record provoke feelings of joy, hope and reflection, leaving the listener sometimes invigorated and other times peaceful. It takes you on a journey. With the production of this album Roquelin further claims her place among the very few music producers that are women (7%). She is here to inspire and encourage women to not be afraid to direct and fully run their music projects: “I have shared videos showing me working on music and audio production and I’ve received female fan messages such as “I wish I had the confidence and courage to do the same”. I want to say to all the women songwriters in the world “if you have a vision you can do it too!”. Among the dozen top-notch musicians and engineers under her direction were industry veteran Brian Scheuble (Sheryl Crow, Liz Phair, Elton John, Lenka, etc.) for the mixing, and Grammy-nominated mastering engineer Joe Lambert (Moby, Sinnead O’Connor) . The upbeat piano rhythm and groove of “Feel Good” along with Ukulele-driven “Getaway” and “Summer Rain” are perfect optimistic morning songs that help you start the day in a good mood. “Time to Believe” is a High energy motivating track that uplifts the listener. The emotional progression of the voice, the band and the moving cellos on “After Dark” support the story that finding the light after hard times is possible. “Rise Above”, biggest arrangement on the album, has a big message of unity, understanding, and compassion. The powerful Gospel Choir creates a feel of having many people coming together for the same Love. Her piano cover of “Come As You Are” by Nirvana is ethereal and atmospheric. Her angelic distinctive voice gives it a haunting and mysterious character. The French portion of the album with “La Mer” (Charles Trenet Acapella cover), “Si Bien”, “Petunia’s Song” and “Pluie d’été” reminds us of LiLi’s bilingual songwriting skills and the international level of her career and passions.
